CHENNAI: Promising Hyderabad batsman B Anirudh has taken a “big
gamble” ahead of the domestic season by deciding to play for his home
state Tamil Nadu.
The 22-year-old Anirudh, who played a pivotal part in Hyderabad’s run to the quarterfinals during the last Ranji Trophy season, was included in the TNCA City XI for the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament after the southpaw had submitted the No Objection Certificate from Hyderabad to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Monday.
Born in Chennai, Anirudh, who made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in 2014 and carried on for three seasons, said it was a last minute decision to move to TN.
“Due to certain circumstances and personal reasons, I decided to take the chance. I spoke to a few TNCA officials and they gave me a positive feedback when I told them about my interest in moving to TN. I hope for the best,” said Anirudh, who averages 44.88 in first-class cricket, told TOI.
Anirudh, who represents Jolly Rovers in the TNCA first division league and Kovai Kings in TNPL, knows he faces stiff competition. “I discussed with Bharath Reddy sir (Chemplast). I know I need to perform well in the Buchi Babu to stand a chance. But at 22, this was the best chance to take that risk. I’m open to batting at any position. It’s a pride to play for TN, if I get a chance. Though I had played close to 10 years in Hyderabad, TN always remains home,” he added.
No big guns for Buchi Bau: The TN selectors have “decided to rest” the pace trio of Aswin Crist, K Vignesh and T Natarajan by not including them in any of the three teams for Buchi Babu. Big guns Abhinav Mukund, M Vijay, Dinesh Karthik and Vijay Shankar too will not be in action. It is learnt that Vijay Shankar, who is recovering from a shoulder injury which he suffered during South Africa A tour, is likely to go to NCA in the next two days to assess his fitness. The selectors have also included India U19 players S Lokeshwar and S Radhakrishnan in the teams.
